Hey Donna!

We had an enjoyable time yesterday with my friends from college. We watched the annual parade, then had a yummy meal, then we sat and chatted. It was a relaxing, nice day!! I was so tired last night (since I woke up at 4:30am), that I went to bed around 9:30. So didn't see the fireworks, but heard them around the neighborhood! I recorded the Philly celebration so we can watch the fireworks later today. I was very good about not overeating yesterday. Since it was just us and our friends there was enough food but not too much. I think I made good decisions...I had a little taste of everything and was satisfied with that!

Today we are hanging out with my BFF. Going to the movies to for a double feature of Despicable Me 2 and Monsters U. Then we are gonna hang out at the mall. Too hot to be doing anything else!!

Donna, looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!!

Love, Beth

Happy Independence Day PA peeps!

Just thought that I'd give a shout out to everyone on this very hot, muggy holiday.  Thank God for central air - I don't know what I would do without it.  Nothing too much on my agenda for today.  Found out that I don't have to work tomorrow so I'm excited.  Didn't take me too long to get back into the employee frame of mindwink.  My job is going well so far.  Doing a lot to get files organized and updated.

Hope that whatever way you plan to celebrate today that you make it enjoyable.  Besides celebrating our nation's birthday today I am also celebrating my freedom from morbid obesity.  The physical weight was one thing - but the psychological weight was something else.  I can't get over how much energy has been freed up inside of me because I don't hate my body anymore.  What a gift to be able to say that I like myself after all these years.  So today I celebrate my independence from negative and abusive self talk and relying on food as my only coping mechanism.

I pray that we all make good food choices today and if we don't that we remember to treat ourselves with gentleness and compassion.  Have a good one.

Donna

My insurance would only cover penn so that's where I went. I don't believe my surgeon is there anymore, but I've met with a pa for all my post op stuff anyway so it doesn't make much of a difference to me. The only issue I had with them were the nurses on the recovery floor post op (this was almost 3 years ago). They didn't respond to pages promptly, especially at night.

Lynn,

Thanks so much for your warm words.  I always admired how you came and wrote things down when we were at the support group meetings.  I miss seeing you but am happy that you continue to check in with the PA message board.  It is always good to see your smiling picture.  Hope that things aren't  too hot down in Florida for you and that Mike is doing okay.  I know that your surgiversary is coming up soon.  Take care.

I'm having mine done at Penn. For me it was between Temple and Penn. I didn't like the atmosphere of temple, I felt like a number there. I like penn because it doesn't seem as crowded or busy as temple, everyone is so nice. I also decided to do my clearances with Penn and its smaller so I'm in and out within the hour. My fam goes to temple and im usually waiting 3 hours with them.  At my consultation i met with the surgeon (really nice, reassuring), the dietician and the nurse, they gave me a big binder that covers everything from portion sizes to exercise to protein shakes.  I didn't like thier info session, it left me confused and some of the info regarding insurance was outdated.

*it never occurred to me to search for a barix nearby so you might wanna check them out, specially if you lack a support system because I've heard their support groups are the best.

Donna, I remember so well meeting you in the "pre op" support meeting 4 years ago. You were ahead of me by a few weeks. Over the years, I have appreciated your contributions and support meetings and now on the board more than you know. Your experience teaches us that losing weight doesn't solve all of the issues of everyday life....but prepares us to deal with them from a whole different perspective.

There is MUCH about you to like, and I hope you continue the discoveries of all that is good on this journey.

Best to you, Lynn

I'll be trying this one! I'm inclined to cook the spinach briefly but this is MY kind of recipe! Quick, easy, and sounds delicious!
